About Lucille

Lucille Collard has lived in Ottawa—Vanier for all her adult life. She began her career of public service supporting hard-working Ministers and Members of Parliament on the Hill, where she saw the power that politics has, as a tool to support individuals, families, and communities. After completing a law degree at the University of Ottawa in 1999, Lucille pursued a civil service career as a lawyer. She worked in international trade law with the NAFTA Secretariat, administrative and regulatory law with the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission and public law with the Federal Courts.

A mother of four, Lucille has prioritized advancing education as an essential building block of success for individuals and communities. In the early 2000s, she had a leading role in the opening of a new francophone public school where all students could benefit from an integrated intellectual, emotional and physical development program. Starting as a pilot project in 2003, with 18 students, the school – Trille des Bois – was officially opened in 2010. Today, Trille des Bois welcomes over 600 students and is a pillar of the Franco-Ontarian community.

Building on this achievement, Lucille decided to run for public office and was elected in 2010 as a School Trustee for the Rideau-Vanier, Rideau-Rockcliffe sector. After being re-elected in 2014 and 2018, she was chosen by her fellow trustees to serve as Chair of the Board of the Conseil des écoles publiques de l’Est de l’Ontario (CEPEO).

Since being elected as MPP for Ottawa—Vanier in 2020, Lucille has worked hard to draw attention to the urgent issues facing her community and to find innovative solutions. She is working to secure more affordable housing for Ottawa—Vanier, to enhance support for those struggling with addictions, to increase access to primary healthcare, to strengthen our local schools, and to protect the environment for generations to come.

At Queen’s Park, Lucille has built a strong track record of collaborating to get results for her community. A proud Franco-Ontarian, Lucille was successful in moving a motion that obtained all-party support to have the Franco-Ontarian flag flown permanently at the legislature. By building productive working relationships with Ministers, she has been able to get answers for her constituents and have her recommendations adopted into Government policy. Her ability to collaborate across party lines enabled her to have two pieces of her own legislation receive unanimous support in the House: one to better support survivors of human trafficking and another to protect children fromonline dangers. She was also chosen to serve as Deputy Speaker, maintaining order and decorum in the House during debates, a role she is honoured to fulfill.

Today, Lucille is running again as the candidate for Ottawa—Vanier because there is still work to be done. She remains more focused than ever on serving the residents of Ottawa—Vanier by bringing people together to find innovative solutions to the challenges facing our community that make the riding so unique.

Education and francophone issues first drew me to politics. I’ve worked hard for progress on these and other issues and I’m ready to keep fighting for the people of Ottawa—Vanier." Lucille Collard
